Is Your Landscape Lighting Stuck in the Last Century? | TLC Incorporated | Home Maintenance Tips

If your landscape lighting isn’t fairly new, then your system probably uses old-fashioned incandescent bulbs. If that’s the case, your landscape lighting IS stuck in the last century.

And that’s not a good place to be.

LED Landscape Light

Because there’s a new type of technology that renders the old incandescent bulbs archaic. That technology is called Light Emitting Diodes (LED). LED bulbs offer a massive improvement over the old incandescent bulbs.

How much of an improvement?

Put it this way: it’s not much of a stretch to say that comparing incandescent bulbs to LEDs is like comparing a Model T to a modern Mercedes.

A World of Difference…

Here are some of the ways in which LED bulbs offer a tremendous improvement over incandescents:

• Lifespan. You might need to replace your incandescent bulbs multiple times per year. But LED bulbs will last for years – even decades. So over time, you’ll likely have to replace dozens of incandescent bulbs for every single LED bulb you replace.

• Energy Savings. While not everybody is concerned about going green to save the environment, saving green is of interest to everyone. And LED bulbs will certainly cut down on your energy costs. LED bulbs are so energy efficient that they use roughly a fourth of the energy that incandescent bulbs require.

• LED Bulbs are Cool – Literally! LED bulbs don’t put out heat the way incandescent bulbs do. You’ll have no worries about your outdoor lighting scorching people, plants or pets.

• LED Lights are Tough. Incandescent bulbs, with their vacuum-glass bubbles and gossamer-thin filaments, are fragile things. It doesn’t take more than a bit of a bump to put them out of action for good. But LED bulbs are completely different; they don’t have fragile filaments or paper-thin glass shells. They can take a licking and keep on ticking (to borrow an old promo from Timex). And that makes them particularly well-suited for outdoor use.

Existing Systems Can Be Retrofitted

If your landscape lighting is using the old-fashioned incandescent bulbs, that’s bad news. Those incandescent bulbs are really going to cost you over the years – both in money and in headaches.

But the good news is that older lighting systems can be converted to use LED bulbs. I’ve done the retrofit for many of my clients (and they all LOVE the LED bulbs!). It’s a bit of upfront expense that will pay huge dividends over the years.

So if you’re still stuck on last century lighting, why not join us in the 21st century? It’s a better place to be!
