Not-so-nice shady spots

In our last post, we told you that Zoysiagrass is one of the best varieties of grass for this region. We also mentioned its one drawback is that it does not grow well in the shade. Fortunately, no one ever said you could have only one variety in your lawn. Indeed, most of the seeds you buy are mixes. There are other varieties that work better in the shade.

As this article points out, Kentucky Bluegrass and Fescue are varieties that can tolerate shade better. Because Tall Fescue is another variety that works well in this area, that might be a good option to mix with Zoysiagrass for shady spots in your lawn.

However, as the article notes, no grass can go without sunlight completely. Before you start planting, track the bare spots in your lawn to see if they get at least three hours of sunlight. If they don’t, you probably need an alternative to grass. Landscaping is a good option, and if you light it up at night can make your yard even more striking. Whether you’re looking for outdoor lighting and a spinkler system to keep your grass green and healthy, we can help. Contact us to learn more.
