If LEDs Are Good For Growing Lettuce and Tomatoes…

Then LED light bulbs are good enough to light up your landscape, too!

If you’ve been enjoying the benefits of landscape lighting for a while, you’ve probably been using incandescent bulbs in your system. But that’s about to change – and it’s a good thing.

That’s because LED bulbs are vastly more energy-efficient than old-fashioned incandescents.

You might have already known that. But did you know that LEDs can also provide a close match to natural light? That’s just one of the reasons that LEDs are edging out incandescent lights in greenhouses all around the world.

Tomatoes, Lettuce, Strawberries – Yum!

At this very moment, millions upon millions of greenhouse-sheltered plants are basking in the glow of LED-supplied pseudo-sunlight. The LED light helps to supplement natural sunlight, particularly in areas where the winter days are short and the sunlight feeble.

The LED lights help growers to keep cranking out fresh produce all through the dark and frigid days of winter.

What kind of produce?

Just about anything you can think of: tomatoes, leafy greens, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, squash, and many more. With LED supplemental lighting, even fruits such as strawberries, melons, and others can be greenhouse-grown.

The LED lights help to increase production by as much as 50%. And because the LED growlights contain so much of the natural spectrum that plants need, the quality of the produce is improved as well as the quantity.

Now, Back to Your Landscape…

If you already have outdoor lighting installed in your yard or landscape, you’ll want to make the switch to LED bulbs – whether the government forces you to or not. That’s because LEDs are vastly more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs. Making the switch will lop a nice chunk of change off your energy bill.

But you’ll also enjoy the aesthetics of modern LED lighting. It’s a pure, bright light that, well, is good enough to grow lettuce and tomatoes.

And if you don’t have landscape lighting yet? This is a great time to pull the trigger and have a system installed, thanks to the benefits of LED lighting.

What’s New is Now Even Better

LED lighting is relatively new technology. Compared to incandescent lighting, LED technology is in its infancy. But great strides have been made in the technology of late.

Not so long ago, LEDs were incapable of producing light in sufficient quantity and quality to grow crops. That has obviously changed. Some of the food on your dinner table tonight may well have been grown with the assistance of LED lighting.

And the very improvements in LED technology that are revolutionizing the greenhouse industry are directly applicable to your landscape lighting. So if you haven’t yet taken advantage of the benefits of LED technology in lighting up your landscape – there’s no time like the present.
